Your opportunity
As a Trade and Compliance Expert, you will play an essential role in guaranteeing that our company's international trade operations strictly adhere to both national and international regulations and standards. The ideal candidate must have acute understanding of trade laws, customs regulations, tariff classification, export controls, international treaties, and other relevant trade compliance requirements.
Your Mission
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with changes in international trade laws, export/import regulations, sanctions, and embargoes, and ensure the organization's activities align to these regulations.
- Export and Import Documentation: Prepare or oversee and guide the employees on the preparation and submission of all required trade documents, including import/export licenses, permits, customs declarations, and other necessary paperwork, also ensures compliance with the Export Control Policy of Sidel Group and TLI. (Dual use, Incoterms, embargo countries).
- Oversight and Collaboration with Brokers: Be the fist point of contact with Sidel Customs Brokers. Develop Customs Brokers SOP and KPIs, assure that Brokers adhere to our standard operating procedures, audit and implement corrective actions regarding the performance of Brokers.
- Classification: Knowledge of classification of products for import/export, ensuring proper tariff codes (HTS) are used for duty calculations.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance risks in the supply chain and trade operations and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Internal Training: Provide formal training and guidance to employees involved in international trade to ensure they understand and adhere to trade compliance policies.
- Audits and Record-Keeping: Conduct regular internal audits to ensure compliance and maintain accurate records of all trade transactions, including import/export records, licenses, and permits and validity of POA given to customs brokers.
- Sanctions Screening: Implement and maintain sanctions screening processes to ensure the company does not engage in business with prohibited parties.
- Incident Resolution: Investigate and address compliance violations and incidents, including assisting with corrective actions and reporting to relevant authorities if necessary.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in trade compliance operations and implement best practices.
- File and follow up claims with carriers when the freight is lost or damaged.
- Provide a dashboard of activities and KPI’s to measure the operation, monitoring the quality, cost, efficiency, and lead times of customs brokers.
- Support the users when in doubt about Shipments outside the US territory.
- Experience working with CBP, DOC, USTR and other government agencies (FDA, EPA or other Government departments).
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in international business, International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain management, Law, or a related field.
- 10 years of experience in trade compliance or a related field.
- Certification in customs compliance or related field (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist).
- In-depth knowledge of international trade laws, customs regulations in the US, import and export controls, and sanctions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- In-depth knowledge of Incoterms.
- Knowledge and experience working with USMCA and other international treaties.
- Knowledge of export control regulations.
- Experience filing post-summary corrections, responding to CF-28, CF-29, and communicating with CBP.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Ability to collaborate with internal teams, including logistics, finance, procurement, and legal, to ensure compliance with trade regulations.
- Proficiency in the ACE platform. Ability to manage of other trade compliance software and tools is a plus.
- Excel Proficiency, medium level on Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook is mandatory.
